Air Fryer Buffalo Wings

Air fryer buffalo chicken wings are crispy and delicious and don’t use any extra oil! Cooking chicken wings in an air fryer instead of deep frying them makes them healthier - and clean up is easier! They are ready in just 30 minutes and are so simple to make! These wings are sure to be a hit are your Super Bowl party - and no one will even know that they weren’t deep fried!

Ingredients

Wings:
2 lbs chicken wings cut into drumettes and flats
1/2 cup Buffalo wing sauce (see below)

Buffalo Sauce:
1 1/3 cup Frank's red hot sauce
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
3 tablespoons white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
sea salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken wings in the basket and insert into the air fryer. You don’t need to spray the basket or anything! No oil.

  2. Cook for 30 total minutes at 380°F. Turn the wings over after 15 minutes with tongs.

  3. While the wings are “frying”, combine the hot sauce, butter, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and paprika in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk the combination often as the butter melts.

  4. Once the sauce comes to a simmer, remove the pan from the heat. Allow the sauce to cool slightly. Add a dash or two of salt to taste. The sauce will thicken as it cools.

  5. When the 30 minutes on the air fryer is up, increase the temperature to 400°F and bake for 6 more minutes until the skin is crispy.

  6. Transfer the wings to a bowl and toss with about 1/3 of your Buffalo sauce to coat. You may need to whisk up the sauce once more before you cover the wings.

  7. Refrigerate any extra sauce you have - you’ll probably have about 2/3 of it left. As you refrigerate the mixture, some of the butter may separate and harden. Simply reheat the mixture on the stovetop or microwave to make the sauce smooth again.

Fun fact #1: I went to make this recipe and realized I did not have Worcestershire sauce, which you NEED for Buffalo sauce, in my opinion. But you can make it really easily with stuff you probably already have in your pantry. I follow this recipe to make it.

Fun fact #2: You may have noticed that the chicken in my pictures are not actually wings and drumettes. They’re actually drumsticks… I saw them on sale a few weeks ago at Wegmans and bought them, thinking they were wings and knowing that I was going to do this recipe soon. Went to go make the recipe and realized they weren’t wings. Whoops. The good news is, my husband and I prefer dark meat and these tasted JUST as good, if not better :)

Makes approx. 3 servings (3-4 wings per serving)

Portion Fix Containers: 1 red, 2 tsp. {Try adding celery for a green container! As far as dips go, try this Primal Kitchen Ranch Dressing and add an orange container. Personally, I’m a fan of blue cheese with my wings, but I haven’t found a healthy/clean eating kind yet. I’d prefer one perhaps made with Greek yogurt. If you know of any, please drop me a comment!!)
